This year we’re turning 20, and we’re celebrating our big anniversary all month long!
Under the Nile has been creating Organic Egyptian Cotton clothing for more than two decades. We’ve served thousands of parents around the world, designed dozens of best-selling products and impacted the lives of hundreds through our fair-trade facility.
Parenting has changed immensely over the past twenty years, and things at Under the Nile have evolved as well. In the beginning, most parents were not concerned with organic clothing, so Under the Nile focused on their luxury Egyptian Cotton clothes. As parents became more concerned with chemicals, Under the Nile could focus their conversations around the benefits for organic living. Under the Nile has been a favorite of parents for decades, because we make quality clothes in the best possible way.
We thought it would be fun to give you a peek at how Under the Nile first started, and show you how our products have evolved over the years.
In the beginning….
Under the Nile started out creating natural colored cotton undergarments for toddlers and children. The natural color of the cotton varies harvest to harvest. Some years the cotton is more yellow, yet other years it can be more red and white. To get a consistent off-white, we started using an “oxygen whitening process,” which is a certified process by GOTS.
We slowly started using prints and colors in our garments, and all of our prints were made from hand drawn paintings. Underwear developed into the toddler’s training pants- lined through the center with terry.
Expanding to Layettes…
Under the Nile quickly expanded their line to include full layettes, and a piece of that included our side snap tops. Our tops are specially designed with a simple overlock finishing, which parents love.
We started out offering our layettes in the natural cotton color, and quickly expanded to offer a wide range of colors and textures. The side snap top become a staple for new moms and one of our best-selling products.
Launching the Long-Johns….
It took a little longer for us to bring our long johns to market. We needed to conform to all of the US standards for children’s sleepwear, and spent months perfecting the fit. We launched the collection with a number of hand-drawn prints, and yarn dyed stripes.
Today, Under the Nile offers their modern organic baby clothes in a wide range of styles, patterns and colors. We are constantly evolving our products with the hopes of making parenting a little easier, a little safer, and a little more stylish.
