25 years ago a mom searched for clothes that wouldn’t irritate her babies’ skin. The more she researched, the more she realized that there was an unfulfilled need. With a background in fashion design and production, she became convinced that she had to start her own organic cotton clothing company that would benefit not only her children, but all children.

That mom was me! My babies are not so little anymore but my passion to produce comfortable baby clothing with care has remained. 

After deciding to launch my own company, I thought about the impact I wanted to have and it became clear to me that it was important not only to use organic cotton, but to make sure my products were produced sustainably and ethically.

And so, I traveled to Egypt to find a factory that mirrored my beliefs. I found the perfect partner for our ethical clothing brand in a sustainable farm north of Cairo. I immediately loved everything about them - the way they ran their business, how they put the community’s welfare at the forefront of everything they did, and their unwavering sustainability practices.

Together, we set out to create a positive change for both the planet and people’s lives. Our 13 Villages Project is a prime example - this project teaches women in rural villages how to make our fruit and veggie toys. By providing work and income for these women, they are empowered to transform their lives, their families and their communities.

Our world is constantly changing and here at Under the Nile and I am always seeking innovative practices and ways to move our company forward. For the past 25 years, I have continued to stay true to my mission and myself— by creating products that provide work for people, while bringing happiness to babies, parents and Mother Earth.
