We have built a brand based on trust and transparency. Under the Nile was the first baby clothing company in the US to have all our products certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard.

It all started with a mom on a mission.

When Under the Nile was founded by Janice and Mohamed Masoud back in 1998, organic cotton baby clothing was practically unheard of in the USA. Janice, who had studied fashion and worked in the garment industry for 15 years, had been searching for clothing that would not harm her two young daughters’ sensitive skin-- but had little luck. The more she understood about conventional cotton and its detrimental impact on Earth and society, the more convinced she became that babies everywhere, deserved something better.

And so the idea of Under the Nile was born.

Since Mohamed was from Egypt, they both knew that Egyptian cotton is the best in the world. It only made sense to begin their search in Egypt for the perfect manufacturer to make Under the Nile’s organic baby clothes and bring their dream to life. After much searching, they found their match in the Sekem Initiative. Sekem is a Fair Trade social enterprise that uses biodynamic farming to enrich the environment and provide social programs to take care of employees, families and the local community.

Twenty years later, we’re still growing.

Today, Under the Nile continues to work exclusively with Sekem to produce the highest quality organic cotton baby products. We strive to fulfill the company vision of an ethical world—one in which every single living thing throughout the production chain is honored and respected.
